A quick heads up that SPG are currently offering a 20% discount on purchasing points - down to $28 / 1k from $35. It's still not a great rate to buy, but given it's the only way to buy points for some FF schemes (for example Asiana), if you need a few extra to top up a balance, now is the time to do it.

Generally, with the exception of UA/CO and maybe a couple of others, SPG points transfer at 1:1 into most airline schemes and you also get a 5k bonus for every 20k you transfer, manufacturing a 1.25:1 rate!
